Destination Senegal reconnected to the German market German market
Destination Senegal is once again reconnecting with the German tourism market, after more than 5 years of absence from the International Tourism Exchange (ITB Berlin), the largest exhibition and congress of the world tourism industry.
A large Senegalese delegation made up of tourism stakeholders from the private sector and institutional partners took part in the marketing activation, networking and connection campaign with professionals, experts and buyers from all areas of the European travel industry and tourism.
After a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world’s leading tourism fair ITB Berlin was back from March 7-9, 2023 with an exclusively B2B focus under the motto “Open for Change” and a strong presence of national and international exhibitors (about 5,500 exhibiting companies from 161 countries).
In order to have more visibility on the German market, the largest tourist supplier market in Europe, the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, the ASPT*, the SAPCO*, the ANACIM* and the Senegalese private sector approach partners from the European travel and tourism industry to develop the best approaches to promoting the Destination.
Several meetings with tour operators, transport companies and the specialized press have opened up prospects for strengthening travel and investment flows to Senegal.
These include TUI Group (Germany), the hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts, the destination representation agency Aviareps, the Federation of German Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (DRV) and statistical experts. Senegal’s stand welcomed major decision-makers, investors, experts and buyers from all areas of the tourism industry, seduced by a diversified and multi-thematic offer from the country of Teranga.
Senegal with its seaside product, its ecotourism offer and its legendary hospitality has positioned itself as an alternative destination, a vacation spot for German and northern European travelers, especially in winter.
At ITB Berlin, the tourism industry agreed that 2023 could be a banner year – the desire to travel is back in large parts of the world, with a constant drive for travelers to explore new routes and experience new holiday destinations.
In addition, the ITB Berlin attracted considerable media interest with around 3,000 media professionals and more than 330 travel bloggers from Germany and abroad as well as leading celebrities from international politics.
The perspectives and challenges of the global tourism industry were on the menu of the ITB Berlin convention, a platform for sharing knowledge and inspirations dedicated to professional visitors.
400 internationally renowned speakers discussed the most pressing topics and current trends, such as digitization, artificial intelligence or the shortage of skilled workers.
Voices were also raised during the ITB Berlin convention to raise awareness on responsible action in tourism, on sustainability and the preservation of the environment.
